Video: Trust the Mask – Otaku

Trust The Mask are a Venice, Italy-based experimental electro pop duo who first hit my radar last month through their single Will you come? Now, they are already back on the blog, thanks to a new track and video that channels cyber pop and dystopia. It’s called Otaku.

The word ‘Otaku’ is taken from Japanese, and is used to describe a person or group that shies away from human interaction in favour of computer games and comics. With an inspiration like that, Otaku is suitably digital, with a glitchy, anti-social arrangement. What are utterly charismatic though, are the soft and compelling vocals, and there are more organic touches in the instrumentals too that humanise it all.

Trust the Mask are Elisa Dal Bianco and Vittoria Cavedon. Both don masks as part of their performance, a literal representation of their stage personas. Together, they are making some incredible and important music.

You can watch the video for Otaku below.
