The Cookie Jar Complot are a Luxembourg-based math rock act who have been featuring regularly on our blog since the beginning of last year when Jane reviewed their EP Caviar Capital. More recently, I ran the rule over their tongue-in-cheek track Beaver Deceiver, and now they’re back with another new one. It’s called Cicadas.

Cicadas opens with a stripped-back, echoing guitar riff before it launches into an atmospheric arrangement that mixes math rock with spaghetti western soundtracks. There’s a complexity to the track, but it also feels dance-able. It’s exactly the kind of joyous music we’ve now come to expect from The Cookie Jar Complot.
Sven Schmeler and Gilles Glesener, the duo who make up The Cookie Jar Complot, have a new EP on the way, Lobster Knife Fight. It’s set for release later this year and will feature Cicadas. You can give the single a listen below.
