Video: The Public Eye – Upper Parliament

The Public Eye is a Derby-based rock band who have just hit my radar thanks to their first single of 2023. A tribute to a city centre street and its local characters, it’s called Upper Parliament.

By Graeme Smith

Upper Parliament opens with rumbling bass before hitting an explosive stride that incorporates elements of post-punk and alternative rock. Both the song’s lyrics and video paint a picture of the Midlands, and its people struggling to get by in less than ideal circumstances. As someone who used to live in Derby and Nottingham, the video was also a stroll down memory lane!

The Public Eye are Joey Greener on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jonah Radford on lead guitar, Cavan Brady on bass and Zack Bednall on drums. The band formed in 2021, building a local presence that seems ripe for wider recognition.
