London-based singer songwriter Mari Dangerfield first hit my radar in 2021 thanks to her debut album Love And Other Machines. Now, I’m pleased to welcome her back to the blog through her eco-anxious new track and video Ruins.

Ruins is a slow-burning barnstormer. An intimate first verse showcases Mari’s unique vocals before we reach a vibrant electro pop second verse. Though the instrumentals are upbeat, the track’s anxiety-ridden message isn’t lost, and the emotion shines through in Mari’s vocal delivery. In her lyrics, she ties together apocalyptic imagery and heartbreak masterfully.

The track will feature on Mari’s upcoming new EP Eco-Fever which delves deeper into the helpless feeling brought about by climate change.
