Poison Oak are an Australian alternative rock band who first featured on our blog as part of Jane’s Pop Punk Revival roundup earlier this year. Now they’ve landed on my radar thanks to their chilled and melodic new track Therapy.

Therapy is a little different from what we’ve heard from Poison Oak before, with a gentle and bright indie pop feel. Its guitar licks bring to mind the late ’90s/early ’00s sound that included the likes of Weezer and Modest Mouse, but there’s also a contemporariness about it too. Altogether, it’s a wonderfully catchy yet challenging effort.

Poison Oak are a four-piece based in Townsville, North Queensland, made up of Ray Pearson, James Balthes, Chris Reiterer, and Adrian Tarca. Therapy was produced by Mike Myers. You can give it a listen below.
