Toronto, Canada-based dream pop artist La Faute, real name Peggy Messing, is fast becoming one of my favourite artists. She first came to my attention in February this year through her track Blue Girl Nice Day and since then I’ve shared a couple others of hers. Her latest is called Let It Burn.
By Graeme Smith
Let It Burn was inspired by “female villains and final girls” and there’s a brooding violence about it. A slow-burning first verse sparks to life in a complex and textured chorus where Peggy’s understated vocals contain an arresting power.
The track features on La Faute’s album Blue Girl Nice Day, also released today. Based on the evidence so far, it’s an album not to be missed. You can listen to Let It Burn below.
