Discovery: Laila

Toronto, Canada-based Laila used to be part of the duo Your Paris, but has chosen to forge a new path solo. She’s just released her debut single that’s rich with pop energy and storytelling lyrics. It’s called Strangers at the Airport.

By Graeme Smith

The track opens with haunting sax and a driving beat. There’s a sense of heartbreak, but also catharsis in its lyrics, recounting a real moment in Laila’s life when she spotted her ex-boyfriend from afar at LAX, the airport in Los Angeles. Laila’s a big fan of the 1975 and has taken a lot of inspiration from their emotive rock sound for the song.

Strangers at the Airport was written by Laila and Jon Pike and was produced by Jon Pike and Brandon Pero. Brandon also did the mixing and mastering is by Kristian Montano. You can check out the track below.
