Porchlight are a Brighton-based alternative rock act who have just hit my radar thanks to their riff-laden new track and video Noel.
By Graeme Smith
Porchlight’s new track builds on earlier singles Drywall, Country Manor and Silver Spoon which saw them gain support from BBC Introducing and Fred Perry Subculture, among others. Noel is a wonderfully unique single that merges experimental and familiar indie elements. The vocals are wonderfully expressive, while the jangly instrumentals brim with a sense of urgency. Yet, it’s the lyrics that really stand out, rich with poetry and a sense of unease.
Noel was produced by Syd Kemp. You can watch the track’s claustrophobic video, created by James Ogram with Anouska Sokolow, below.
