Emily Kinney has featured once before on this blog, but not since the end of 2019 when I discovered her music through her bittersweet track Holding Your Hand In Nashville. The American singer songwriter, who also starred as Beth Greene in The Walking Dead, is now back with a melancholic new one. It’s called False Start.

The track is a raw and honest one about shame, embarrassment and a desire to give up. Its descriptive lyrics are as memorable as they are heart-breaking and Emily brings their emotion to life through her expressive vocals. Instrumentally, the song is acoustic folk, but with some interesting experimental textures in the mix. It’s all beautifully stunning.
