Cole LC is from just down the road in Leeds, but he’s only just hitting my radar for the first time, thanks to his politically-charged new R&B track Slowly (Hope You’re Not a Tory).
By Graeme Smith
Celebrated by BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop, 1Xtra’s DJ Target an GRM Daily, Cole LC is certainly one to watch in the modern UK scene. His music blends influences from pop, R&B and UK Garage but it was perhaps the lyrical content of his latest that captured me the most in his latest.
The track opens gently and dreamy enough but Cole quickly gets into it, with a combination of soulfulness and biting political tirade. He calls out those who don’t accept diversity or difference in a style that’s as pleasant as it’s hard-hitting. It really makes him stand out from his contemporaries.
Slowly (Hope You’re Not A Tory) features on Cole’s new EP Favourite Version which is also out today. You can give the single a listen below.
