Jo Beth Young is an ethereal indie folk act who is on the verge of releasing her third album yet has only just hit my radar. Formerly known as Talitha Rise, her new album Broken Spells will also take her on her first tour since 2019. She’s just released a new single and video from the album. It’s called Wolf Song.

Wolf Song opens with tense strings before a gentle guitar melody joins it. When Jo Beth’s vocals come in, you know you’re in for something special. Wonderfully light and expressive, a soaring verse gives way to a chorus that’s something a little more down to earth, dealing with matters of the heart through imagery and metaphor.

I’m so glad to have discovered Jo Beth’s music. There’s a certain je ne sais quoi about it that sets her apart from her contemporaries. Wolf Song is contender for song of the year for me. You can check out its intimate video below.
