We here at York Calling have made no secret of how much we love Estella Dawn. The New Zealand-born, San Diego, USA-based singer songwriter has been all over our pages since 2020 when Jane discovered her for us. We’ve featured so much of her music since, but she never fails to please. Her latest comes complete with a video and is called Locked In.

Locked In is a pop song, but there’s much more to it than that simple label. We get elements of hip-hop, lo-fi and trip-hop in it, bringing to mind contemporaries like Doja Cat and Dua Lipa. We also get Estella’s characteristically descriptive lyrics, which tell a story of edgy seduction.
