Los Angeles, USA-based singer songwriter Alex McArtor has appeared on this blog a couple of times before. It was way back in 2019 that Jane first discovered her for us thanks to her track Party’s Over. Last year she returned to these pages with He Don’t Like The Sun and now it’s my turn to share her music. Her latest track and video is called Oxygen Thief.

The term “oxygen thief” is usually used as an insult for someone else but in this track, Alex turns it on herself. It was written during a bout of loneliness and writer’s block, and she poured her frustrations into this song. Tempering the harshness of the lyrics is a dreamy and driving indie pop arrangement, and Alex’s vocals are utterly mesmerising.
Oxygen Thief comes complete with a lyric video that combines intimate closeups with the expansive California landscape. You can give it a watch below.
