Winter’s Children is the new EP from Toronto, Canada-based Goth dream pop act Loveproof. The four track collection is a showcase of the band’s diverse sound that combines dream pop, indie rock and dub.

The EP opens with A Song Is Not Enough. A driving, bass-heavy rhythm sets the early tone before delicate, almost whispered vocals come in. There’s a darkness to it all but with pockets of light that keep things interestingly textured. It’s an atmospheric start that implores the listener to stick around.

Spires is a lighter track, with a dreaminess to it that’s punctuated with driving percussion and echoing guitar. Organic and electronic elements merge beautifully. Even the Stars has a subtle groove and some understated romance in its lyrics. Young Lords closes the EP in a powerfully soaring way. The reverb is cavernous. Close your eyes and you’ll be away.

With this new EP, Loveproof are showing us that they’re a band not confined by the concept of genre. Yet, there’s a wonderful cohesiveness to this collection, and enough lushness in its production that you can easily slip away in its emotional world.
