Poland-born, Belfast-based artist Patryk Kania first featured on this blog in March this year when Jane interviewed him. Just after he also made it onto her Ireland round up. Now it’s my turn to share some of his music. His latest is called Boating.
By Graeme Smith
There’s an arresting darkness to Boating, a song about seeking closeness in all the wrong places. It opens with minimal electronica that quickly builds into a moody groove. There’s a beautiful uniqueness to Patryk’s sound, with almost spoken word vocals and poetic lyrics. When we get to the chorus, the track reaches it full sultriness. It’s a track that’s thoroughly absorbing.
Boating was written by Patryk and produced by Kevin Buster. The track will feature on Patryk’s EP Gin Mill Club set for release in the autumn. Based on the evidence so far, it’s a release not to be missed.
