New Music: The Fades – Small Again

South London-based garage rock band The Fades have featured a few times on this blog before. In early 2022, I discovered them thanks to their double a-side Lost My Job and Time Is Right. A review of their album Night Terrors followed later in the year. It painted a ghoulish picture, but not one that was supernatural, but rather based in the world in which we live. This year, we’ve already shared their single Off The Record, and now here’s a new one. Catchy and thought-provoking, it’s called Small Again.

By Graeme Smith

Small Again opens with a simmering intro that combines indie rock with something a little more psychedelic. There’s a vibrancy to it and a tongue-in-cheek innocence about its lyrics. A wistful chorus will implant itself in your subconscious as will its lively guitar riffs.

Since we last checked in with The Fades, they’ve been blowing up, both in the world of streaming and on the radio, having featured on BBC6 Music, Amazing Radio and Radio X. You can have a listen to Small Again below.
