Ettie is a London-based singer songwriter who first came to our attention in the summer of 2022 when she featured as part of Jane’s Monthly Favourites roundup. Now it’s my turn to run the rule over some of her music. Her latest single is a wistful story about wanting to go back in time. It’s called Marty Mcfly.
By Graeme Smith
Ettie is a queer woman who came out in her early 20s. In hindsight, she wishes she’d done it sooner and in her latest track, she expresses the desire to go back in time and tell her younger self that it’s okay to be who she is. The title obviously refers to the hero of the Back To The Future films and there’s a suitable sense of nostalgia in Ettie’s track.
It’s delivered with a lively pop rock instrumental arrangement and it’s Ettie’s vocals that are the centrepiece. Beautifully expressive, they leave you in no doubt regarding the emotion of the story.
Ettie is an English Literature graduate and has a particular preference for millennial angst. She draws inspiration from artists such as Avril Levine, Hayley Williams and Pale Waves.
