Toronto, Canada-based pop singer songwriter Ally Cribb first came to our attention at the end of last year. Her debut EP Unbroken impressed me with the maturity of its song writing, and I was particularly excited by its opening track Bigger. More recently, we shared the video for her single California and a JNGL94 remix of Bigger. Now she’s back with another track and video perfect for this time of year. It’s called End of August.
By Graeme Smith
End of August pays tribute to Ally’s Nova Scotia roots, and it was a summer on Canada’s East Coast that inspired her to write the track. It opens with the sound of waves lapping against the shore before we get a stripped-back pop arrangement with folk undertones. As ever, Ally’s vocals are the star of the show. They are beautifully soaring during a memorable chorus.
