Nashville, USA-based singer songwriter Candice in Wonderland has just come to my attention thanks to her political commentary of a track, written in response to a particularly bleak news day. It’s called Tom & Jerry (hail mary!).

Sometimes all you can do when faced with the state of the world is to satirize it. That’s exactly what Candace does with her art, drawing on the surreal and the cartoonish. Her performance name, of course, borrows from the Lewis Carroll classic and I’m sure I don’t need to tell you the inspiration behind the title of her latest track.

Opening with a sense of whimsy, Tom & Jerry (hail mary!) quickly hits a sultry pop groove. Candace’s vocals are particularly compelling while her lyrics are rich with wordplay. If you’re looking for a way to channel your anger with recent political events, look no further than this track.
