Berlin, Germany-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Mary and The Sharks first featured on this blog at the beginning of this year through her track I Don’t Care (If You Don’t Care). I was impressed with her ability to combine classic rock with modern pop, so when I saw she had a new single out, I just had to give it a listen. It’s called Hollywood.
By Graeme Smith
Hollywood is an honest and self-reflective track that Mary wrote in the wake of some big life changes. In it she explores handling the mourning of dreams let go and the track feels compellingly relatable. It opens with moody synth before a driving percussive arrangement comes in. Mary’s vocals are instantly gripping, and I found myself hanging on every confessional word of its lyrics. A soaring, cathartic chorus is the highlight.
If this new single marks a new chapter in Mary’s career, then we’re in for a treat with what comes next. You can give Hollywood a listen below.
