New Music: Genevieve Sovereign – Midday Blue

Melbourne, Australia-based songwriter, composer and vocalist Genevieve Sovereign first appeared on this blog in January this year as part of Jane’s Monthly Favourites roundup. Jane was intrigued by her experimental electronica, so when the opportunity came up to listen to some of her music myself, I knew I had to take it. Her latest is called Midday Blue.

By Graeme Smith

Genevieve combines acoustic and electronic elements into her music, creating a mix that feels organic and nuanced. The track was inspired by her own journey from the countryside of northern Ontario, Canada to expansive Australia, with the two worlds joined by their seemingly endless skies. Its composition is suitably ethereal, rich with subtle texture that gives prominence to Genevieve’s captivating vocals. The lyrics are exquisitely poetic, painting a vivid picture for the listener.

Featuring on Midday Blue are Paul Wyre/Ventry on acoustic guitar and Emily Saaen on piano. Mixing, mastering and engineering comes from Deece at Omni-hieroglyphic. You can give it a listen below.
