Totnes-based singer songwriter Billie Maree first came to our attention as part of Jane’s Monthly Favourites round up back in May this year. I then followed that up with a share of her track Young Child in July. Her latest is an ode to her female-bodied friends, and the strength that they have. It’s called We Belong.
By Graeme Smith
A delicate yet powerful track, We Belong sees Billie’s characterful and soothing vocals paired with minimal instrumentals, giving plenty of space for the listener to absorb its poetic lyrics. There’s a folksy feel to the track, but a thoroughly modern one, with a contemporary edge that means it’ll appeal to a wide range of listeners, not least those to whom its dedicated.
The title track of Billie’s upcoming EP, set for release next month, We Belong was self-produced and recorded with the help of Izzi Bard at Middle Farm Studios. It was mixed and mastered by Ram Dass Khalsa and is released via Want To Know Records. You can give it a listen below.
