Video: Ginger Beef – Dew

Calgary, Canada-based alternative pop duo Ginger Beef burst onto my radar last month with their take on Focus’s prog rock classic Hocus Pocus. Now they’re already back on the blog with a new track and video which takes its inspiration from the ’80s and ’90s. It’s called Dew.

Dew is a gentle and nostalgic track consisting of warm keys, cantering drums and characteristically expressive flute. You can spot the retro influences right away, in both the track’s composition and its campy video which calls on cheesy TV credit sequences. Above all, it proves that Ginger Beef are able to pull together a timeless composition all of their own and gets me more excited about the band than I already was.

Ginger Beef are flutist Jiajia Li and multi-instrumentalist and producer Warren Tse (aka MSG). Their debut self-titled album is out now and features both Dew and Hocus Pocus. You can watch the video for Dew below.
