Video: Leveller – You, Fading out of View

Leveller, the solo project of Bristol-based musician Daniel R. Ball, first hit my radar this summer thanks to his track and video Fair Isle Automatic. Now he’s back on these pages with a new one that takes influence from the likes of Echo and The Bunnymen and Funeral For A Friend. It’s called You, Fading out of View.

By Graeme Smith

Leveller’s latest is a breakup song, with Daniel elevating the oft-covered topic through his unique brand of rock which incorporates retro and modern elements of shoegaze, post-punk and emo. A simmering verse boils over into a chorus that’s full of longing. It packs quite an emotional punch.

You, Fading out of View was self-recorded, apart from the drums which were played by Callum Brown of Ulrika Spacek and engineered by Syd Kemp. It was mixed by Dom Mitchison at Humm Studios, and mastered by Shawn Joseph at Optimum Mastering. You can check out its intimate video below.
