Album Review: Team Demo – It’s a Demo

Team Demo are a hip-hop act who have teamed up with the legendary DMV production crew and some rap heavyweights for their latest album. Featuring the likes of Method Man, Skyzoo, Rome Streetz, Planet Asia, and Ras Kass, it’s called It’s a Demo.

By Graeme Smith

It’s a Demo is Team Demo’s second LP of the year, following their flashback collection The Essential Team Demo which dropped in the Spring. Their latest release sees Wais P co-headlining.

The album opens with Quest Love Bounce. It’s a dark and broody opening with an instant old school flavour. We get an attitude-filled hook before the track gives way to a free-flowing verse with plenty of wordplay. It’s rap for those who love it classic and a strong start.

Extras in the Pot is sinister and stripped back before launching into a biting, boastful tale. 5 Percent Tint is brassy and soulful before Camera Flash provides a highlight with its monstrous beats, pleasing cadence and delicious wordplay.

Creep is woozy and laidback. Odee hits us with some bombastic beats before giving us some charismatic, characterful verses. Poli With the Plug has an infectious groove and some bright electronica. It’s another highlight.

Do You Believe comes with a sense of spookiness and some well-chosen samples. What You Don’t See hits hard with its relentless rhymes and old school references. Hallelujah closes the album with a gospel moment that brings many of the collection’s voices together. It’s a final highlight.

In certain circles, Team Demo need no introduction but if you’re coming to them fresh like we are then you’re in for a treat. They are genuine voices in a sea of fame-seekers, doing their own thing independently. Their new album is a must listen.

It’s a Demo is out now out now on vinyl and through all major DSPs and you can check it out below.
