EP Review: Limandi – FUCK. IT.

Limandi is an indie pop artist who has just come to my attention thanks to the release of her debut EP. A seven-track journey that explores the concepts of coming home, heartbreak and self-love, it’s called FUCK. IT.

By Graeme Smith

FUCK. IT. is very much a one-woman creation with Limandi holing up in the Swedish countryside to make it, right from the lyrics to the music to the production and mixing. The resulting collection has a strong sense of the personal and the authentic about it, starting right from EP opener One Day I’ll Be Proud. It’s a sultry and soulful start with lingering, meditative notes and touches of experimentation. Rapped vocals come in, sharing reflective and open-hearted lyrics.

Title track FUCK. IT. brings with it a slow-burning and powerful moment. Remorseful lyrics act as a mea culpa. They’re rich with a sense of catharsis, delivered against a bright instrumental landscape. It’s an early highlight.

How Fucking Hard is rich with atmosphere, opening with layers of static and pensive electronic instrumentals. Its verse has a catchy melody before it arrives at another highlight of a chorus that shakes away all the stress.

Put The Blame On Me has fiery lyrics and a pleasingly percussive instrumental arrangement. Hopin’ You’ll Be Fine is a stripped-back number with a sense of the timeless about it. Its storytelling lyrics make it another highlight.

Family is a piano-led number with some heart-rendering lyrics. Limandi’s isolated vocals ramp up the emotion in the first verse before we arrive at a warm and philosophical chorus. Where You’re Heading To is a short and introspective conclusion to the collection.

FUCK. IT. shows how powerful it can be when someone pours their heart and soul into their work. Limandi’s personality and thoughtful song-writing shines through, and there’s plenty of freshness to her approach to keep things interesting throughout. The world needs to know about her. She truly is something special.
