Indiana, USA-based artist Databass, real name Katie Arndt, has featured a few times on this blog now, and she always impresses us with her innovative approach to music. Her latest is no exception, bringing together jazz, funk and pop in a sweet infusion. It’s called Animal Eyes.

Animal Eyes is a song about heartbreak, betrayal and the inner struggle that comes with being in a toxic relationship. With lyrics full of imagery, the emotion is brought to life through Katie’s always mesmerising vocals. The track showcases a livelier side of her sound with bombastic beats and a cantering rhythm. It’s fantastic that, no matter how familiar we get with Databass, she still manages to surprise us.

Currently studying Music Media Production at Ball State University, Katie recorded and produced Animal Eyes at her university’s studios, collaborating with a classmate who acted as recording engineer and drummer. You can give the track a listen below.
