Milos Asian is a Bordeaux, France-based artist who has just come to my attention through his tenth album. A collaboration with 23 different artists, it’s a mosaic of the human experience. It’s called Breathe in, Breathe out.
By Graeme Smith
Of French and Peruvian descent, Milos has called France his home for over 20 years. Influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd, Beirut, This Is The Kit and Sufjan Stevens, among others, he provides a rich and unique sound with his music. From the lively and gentle indie folk of philosophical title track and opener Breathe In, Breathe Out to the dreamy and cinematic strings of album finale The Opposite Is True, he gives us plenty of twists, turns, heartache, romance and whimsy.
In his time in Bordeaux, Milos has built a huge network of collaborators, many of whom feature on this ambitious project. That includes old friends the deliciously named The Cocktail Bananas, as well as Boris Boublil, vocals from Adamée and Iris Capricorne, and many, many more, giving the album a rich and varied feel.
The album’s early highlight is Out In The Cold, the story of a professional runner who ends up on the streets after taking to doping. It starts out slow and mournful but, reflecting the protagonist’s journey, slowly builds with light and confidence before arriving at a triumphant finish.
There’s so much packed into Milos’s tenth album but its overall vibe is bright and positive. If you’re looking for a boost to banish the last of the midwinter blues, then Breathe in, Breathe out is just the ticket.
Breathe in, Breathe out was recorded at Kitchen Studio by Milos, at Ed Room Studio by Edoard Bonan, at Oak Tree Studio by Boris Boublil, at Pok’s house by Pok, and at Henri Caraguel’s house by Henri. It was mixed on Saje Poly Broadcast at Kitchen Studio and mastered at Black Box Studio by Peter Deimel.
The album is out now via streaming services, on CD Digipack, and on limited edition vinyl, all available on Milos’s Bandcamp page. You can check out the album below.
