Frome-based acoustic folk singer Tallulah Rendall has featured once before on this blog, last summer when I discovered her music through her rendition of Gayatri Mantra. Now she’s back with another mantra, this time amplified by the presence of a choir. It’s called The Heart Sutra.
By Graeme Smith
Tallulah lives her life by mantras, having found them incredibly helpful to her life and healing journey away from trauma. The Heart Sutra is of particular importance to her, having discovered its impact twelve years ago. Now she wants others to feel its benefit so has put it to record.
It’s a piece that grows slowly, with the looping refrains that you’d expect from a meditation. Tallulah’s vocals render it beautifully while long, contemplative notes provide the accompaniment. As soon as the choir comes in, you know you’re in for something special.
The Heart Mantra will feature on Tallulah’s upcoming album Love Carries Me Home which was produced by three-time Grammy winner Danton Supple. You can give the track a listen below.
