If there are two things I’ve made abundantly clear, it’s my love for unconventional music and how much I’m digging the tracks of Birmingham-based artist Saer. Having burst onto my radar last year through his unexpected take on The Police’s Walking On The Moon, I’ve been keep a close eye out for new releases from him ever since.

His latest is another cover, My Funny Valentine. Most famously recorded in 1952 by Chet Baker, Saer gives it a dubstep and electro twist. While the heart and soul of the original composition remains, it’s elevated to heights never heard before. Saer revels in maximalism in its layered composition and pours plenty of emotion into his vocals. If his voice sounds familiar, it might be that you’re a fan of The Voice UK on which he appeared in 2018.
With My Funny Valentine, Saer continues to surprise and delight in equal measure. There really is no-one else out there like him. You can listen to the single below.
