New Music: Long Island – homewrecker

Huddersfield-based indie pop band Long Island have featured on this blog a couple of times before, first hitting my radar at the end of 2022 with their single average. A review of their album infatuation’s a nightmare followed and now they’re back with a new single release.

If you’re one who happily let Valentine’s Day pass you by yesterday, then homewrecker is a track for you. A proudly anti-love song, it hits hard with its combination of rock and electronica. Expressive vocals from Rhiannon Stephenson fill the stripped-back first verse before it slowly builds to a fist-raising chorus which encourages you to thrash it all out.

I might say it too often, but it’s definitely justified in the case of Long Island – they’re ones to watch. It’s great that they’re out there representing Yorkshire for us.

Homewrecker was recorded at Vibrations Studios in Huddersfield, was produced by the band’s guitarist Cameron Conner, and was engineered by bassist Paddy Spence-Lewis. It was mastered by Grant Berry from Fader Mastering. You can check out the track below.
