EP Review: Jane N’ The Jungle – Life of the Party

Phoenix, USA-based rock band Jane N’ The Jungle have been lighting up these pages since 2018 as we’ve shared track after track by them. Now we have our first chance to run the rule over one of their extended players.

By Graeme Smith

Life of The Party brings together some of the recent tracks we’ve shared by Jane N’ The Jungle, including Dirty Dog, Metal Ghost, Wasteland, Bed of Roses, and Cut Me Open. Sitting alongside them is the EP’s title track, which finishes the record in visceral and bombastic style. It’s a track that talks of addiction, with the twist exploring how a person can be someone’s drug. Coming complete with a video, it burns slowly through its first verse before exploding to life in a cathartic chorus.

Before that we are treated to a cavalcade of Jane N’ The Jungle’s recent releases which together create a coherent but varied whole. Dirty Dog opens things with raw and anthemic rock. Metal Ghost ramps up the emotion with its passionate chorus. Wasteland expands things with its atmospheric arrangement. Cut Me Open leaves it all out there with a powerful, memorable chorus before taking a surprise acoustic turn. Bed of Roses is beautifully subversive and groovy.

Over the years here at York Calling, we’ve made no secret of how much we’re into Jane N’ The Jungle, going so far as to interview them not once but twice. They combine a classic rock sound with modern elements to create something that feels timeless, and the expression in their performance is second to none. This new EP simply cements the love we already have for them.

Jane N’ The Jungle are Jordan White on vocals and Brian Dellis on guitars. Life of The Party was produced by Chuck Alkazian at Pearl Sound Studios in Canton, Michigan. You can check out the EP below.
