New Music: Becca James – If you’re not home

Becca James is a Newcastle-based alternative pop singer songwriter who first featured on these pages as part of Jane’s Monthly Favourites round up in May last year. Jane was so taken with her sound, that she featured in the roundup once again in July.

It’s through her new single If you’re not home that I’m getting my first chance to share her music. It follows on from her debut EP Trust the Season, released last year, and delivers a devastating but life-affirming tale of loneliness. A stripped-back and experimental instrumental sets the early tone, and leave plenty of space for Becca’s unique and soulful vocals to tell their story before we reach a understated climax of a finish.

Not resting on her laurels, Becca is already working on her second EP God in Chains which focuses on healing via music.

If you’re not home was produced by Sheffield-based producer Mark Stoney. You can give it a listen below.
