You recently released a new track called Into The Light. What can you tell us about the song?
My past few releases have been very pop in terms of style. I wanted to get back to my rock roots and put something out that had a harder edge to the sound and playing. I came up with the guitar riff for this song and built the track around that. I also wanted to compose a song where the lyrics were a play on words. That is where I came up with the verses. There is still a simple meaning, I just used words that ended in the same suffix but was able to still tell the story. I am ready for bigger things in life.
How has the reception to Into The Light been so far, and where can it be purchased?
The reception has been fantastic. It is flying up a few charts over in Europe and getting a lot of radio and playlist placements. It is available anywhere music can be purchased or streamed.
Do you have any more singles planned for release in the near future?
I am currently working on a new song that I hope to release in the fall. Stay tuned.
Are there any plans for a full-length album or an EP anytime soon?
No full-length album. I plan on putting together an EP with all my singles that I have released in the past 4 years. I will probably remix them first. I will include a few unreleased songs too.
Your music is quite unique, mixing a few different genres together. What/who are you most influenced by?
That is a tough question. I love the Beatles, especially their harmonies. I love to create harmonies in my music. I love Britpop bands like Oasis. I grew up in the eighties so there are elements of some prog-rock groups like Triumph and Rush that influence my guitar playing. I also like groups like Simple Minds that are synth based. My newfound love has been EDM/pop music. You can hear that influence in all my solo work. The rhythm and arpeggiated synthesisers help me create a fully polished texture.
Your music has been played within several television shows and commercials. Do you have any TV projects on the go at the moment?
I do not, but I plan on releasing more videos.
You’ve been in the music industry for 30 years. What’s the secret to your longevity?
I feel you don’t choose music; it chooses you. How you accept this internal pull is up to you. I chose it as a career, an expression of my life and a release. When there have been tough times, music has helped get me through. I love to learn. The music industry has been steadily changing so I need to be versed in what has changed and where it is going and what will happen next. The challenge keeps my interest. Plus, I teach music technology at the college level. I have students that challenge me to be my best and lead by example. Having success is a good way to have them buy into what I am teaching. And of course, working hard helps your longevity.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up in the next few months?
I am working with promoters to plan and execute an east coast tour in the United States.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Hopefully, that will come after the U.S. finishes up. I would love to tour over there.
Any last words for the fans?
