New Music: Jodie Nicholson – Another Frequency

Newcastle-based songwriter and producer Jodie Nicholson has been featuring on this blog since 2020, but it’s been awhile since we last shared any of her music.

I’ve been a big fan of Jodie’s work since she hit my radar with her beautifully ethereal track I Must Be Dreaming, and I even got a chance to watch her perform live in support of Nerina Pallot at the National Centre for Early Music.

Her new track Another Frequency is, in my opinion, her best yet. Teasing her new album Safe Hands, set for release 10 May via Quiet Crowd/Absolute, it’s a track with a local connection too, having been co-written by our very own Sam Griffiths (of The Howl & The Hum fame), who also features on bass and backing vocals. The pair have penned a devastatingly observed story of heartbreak, delivered through Jodie’s unique brand of soft electronica.

Jodie self-produced and recorded the track at Blank Studios in Newcastle. It’s mixed by Oli Deakin, and mastered by Katie Tavini.

In May and June, Jodie will be heading out onto the road, with a nearby stop at Leeds’ Hyde Park Book Club on 4 June.
