Remy Lazz is a singer songwriter who has just come to my attention through the release of his debut album. Dwelling on love and loss as he goes through a divorce, it’s called Movin’ On.

I never fail to find it compelling when an artist opens up with their music and that’s exactly what drew me to Remy Lazz’s album. They say write what you feel and Remy has certainly done that with his debut, pouring out his thoughts and feelings during a difficult time in his life.
Movin’ On gives us a cross-section of his world, taking on difficult topics such as struggles with addiction, being sober, and reflecting on past mistakes. Yet, it’s not all doom and gloom, there’s enough space for love and recovery across its twelve tracks too.
Right from its opening title track, Movin’ On delivers some powerful anthems. Big riffs meet expressive, characterful vocals that have a pleasingly gruff edge. It’s a sound that sits somewhere between classic rock and roll and emo-punk, and lovers of both end of that spectrum will find a lot to enjoy about it.
Previously released single Whisper Your Secrets provides the album’s central focal point. Reflective lyrics in the verse gives way to a pleading, powerful chorus. Other highlights include the pacy, fiery and vibrant Blame On Me, the bombastic, Weezer-esque Everything Is Alright, the atmospheric and reluctantly hopeful I’ll Be Just Fine and slow-burning, soulful album closer Bittersweet.
Remy is an artist that’s just setting out but this debut starts him off on the right foot. His vulnerability makes his story relatable, and his musical style is reassuringly familiar while still finding a unique niche. Most importantly, he’s proof that you can go through struggles in your life and end up with something out of them.
