Discovery: Yodashe

Based in London, Yodashe is an artist who has just come to my attention through the release of her latest single. A celebration of femininity and spontaneity, it’s called FAM.

The inspiration for FAM came from France, specifically its Nouvelle Vague cinema and legendary performers like Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot. It’s all reimagined through a modern lens as Yodashe teams up with EDP Wasp to give us something refreshingly unique.

A freeform opening marries percussive layers with snatches of voice before we arrive at a heavy groove. Expressive vocals are the centrepiece, half sung, half spoken, and improvisational. They implore the listener to seize the right now, and not be held back by perceived boundaries.

FAM was written and produced by Yodashe at Goldsmiths Music Studios, London. It was mixed by Matthew Keightley at Hackney Road Studios, and mastered by Cicely Balston at AIR Studios. The track is supported by Help Musicians. You can give it a listen below.
