Meredith Gleason is an Alaska-born, New York City-based American indie artist who has just come to my attention through the release of her debut EP.

Fluorescent is a collection of five tracks that let us know something a little about this rising star. Born in the wilds and now relocated to the city, Meredith has never lost that country spirit, and it runs right through the compositions of her debut EP.
Green Song opens things with a raw and acoustic arrangement. Meredith’s vocals are instantly arresting and beautifully rich as they deliver poetic, philosophical lyrics. When the chorus arrives, the emotion ramps up nicely and it’s clear that she knows how to pen a captivating song. It’s a strong start.
From there we get a series of stories about heartbreak and recovery. They are told diversely through simmering pop rock (Hearts Been Broken), acoustic pop (Stay a Few More Nights), and vibrant grunge (Time Aint Forgiving). All the while, things stay nicely approachable and cohesive, right up to EP closer No Clothes On, which brings us full circle back to intimate acoustic. A slow-burning and cathartic effort, it’s the perfect ending.
Meredith Gleason is an artist with a captivating sound, and that rare ability to relate common stories in a new way. This debut EP feels like just the start for her, and I’m excited to see where it takes her next. She’s quickly finding her feet as an artist, and could well be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.
