Recently, Philadelphia, USA-based experimental garage rock duo The Margaret Hooligans have been treating us to tracks from their upcoming album ThunderHole Rock n’ Roll, and the latest to get our ears around is Driver!.
By Graeme Smith
Driver! is the sixth single release from the album and is yet more evidence of just how much The Margaret Hooligans are daring to push the envelope with their fourth album. The track reflects on the US prison-industrial complex, shining a light on all its flaws through some discordant guitar and punishing drums. The lyrics draw on the history of the Attica prison riots in 1971, made famous by Al Pacino in the film Dog Day Afternoon.
ThunderHole Rock n’ Roll is set for release in October this year. Driver! was recorded in the basement of Piety Street Publishing, and was mixed and produced by the band’s own drummer, percussionist and backing vocalist Mr. Strontium. It was mastered by KRAMER of Shimmy Disc Records. Meg Cratty sings the vocals and plays guitar and electric ukulele.
