Ever so often on this blog, a track comes along that really makes me sit up and pay attention. Enter Brooklyn, USA’s Two-Man Giant Squid and their track and video I Was A DJ in 2015.

I Was A DJ in 2015 takes a tongue-in-cheek look back at the EDM boom on the 2010s, and though it’s very much about the trend-chasing of the time, its message feels equally relevant today. Young musicians can often fall guilty of copying what they see as popular, believing it to be the key to success, only later discovering that it’s better to do your own thing.

With their new track, Two-Man Giant Squid are certainly doing their own thing. It’s a unique, driving composition with spoken word vocals delivering poetic lyrics. For all it has to say, it’s also a banger and when the beat drops after the first verse, you will be well and truly hooked.
