Though Sydney, Australia-based act Upbeat Lord are new to us, their collaborators for their new single Light It Up need no introduction.

Apricot Ink have been featuring on these pages since 2021, coming to our attention through their sultry single Usually. We’ve shared two more of their tracks since then, and I always find joy in their unique brand of alternative pop.

Together, the two acts give us dub-hop like no other. Apricot Ink’s Sara is on lead vocals and gives us everything we’ve come to expect from her while we get a nicely psychedelic instrumental. Things open stripped-back before we quickly hit a bass groove. The lyrics speak of re-igniting romance and there’s plenty of healthy sexuality. Upbeat Lord and Apricot Ink certainly have chemistry.
