Video: Ellery Twining – S B Butler

Ellery Twining is a Connecticut, USA-based post pop artist who has just come to my attention through his track and video, S B Butler.

A member of Generation X, Ellery uses his music to explore the modern world through his generation’s eyes. Often referred to as “the forgotten generation”, Gen X grew up in a time of social upheaval. Established norms were being questioned, but the answers hadn’t yet been found, and the world wasn’t quite ready to talk about childhood trauma as much as the generations that followed.

So, while S B Butler brims with a sense of nostalgia, it’s tainted with a certain childhood anxiety. Ellery has a spoken word vocal delivery that brings to mind Talking Heads’ Once In A Lifetime, and there’s a moody groove running through the instrumental, brilliantly supported by the bass of David Bentley.

S B Butler was produced and mixed by Eric Lichter of Dirt Floor Recording Studio, Haddam, Connecticut. The track features on Ellery’s second album RESULTS, out now.
