New Music: Saint Idiot – Thin Places

Saint Idiot, aka Tomáš Andel, first featured on this blog way back in 2021 thanks to his track Talk. Fast-forward a few years and I’m pleased to welcome him back with his latest, Thin Places.

Hailing from Edmonton, Canada, Tomáš is a Slovak-Canadian art pop singer songwriter who makes music that blends the familiar with the unconventional. Song writing helps him process difficult emotions like doubt and grief and that’s what we get with his latest single.

Thin Places explores the time after losing a close friend, and attending a silent retreat to help deal with their passing. Bringing elements of indie folk into Saint Idiot’s art pop sound, a stripped-back arrangement gives plenty of space to the poetic lyrics and draws you as the listener in before things develop into crashing, disorientating and cathartic climax.

The track features jazz drummer and percussionist Mark Segger, Steven Boehm on bass, and Douglas Parth on keyboards, orchestral instruments and guitar. Kelsey McMillian provides backing vocals. You can give it a listen below.
