Discovery: Kabusa Oriental Choir

Kabusa Oriental Choir are a group based in Abuja, Nigeria who have just released their latest single. Promising to be a summer jam, it’s called Tshwala Bam.

By Graeme Smith

The choir is directed by Austin Chinemezu Nwamara who was inspired to start it while leaving work with his colleague. The idea was straightforward yet powerful – create pop hits as sung by a Catholic choir. It proved a success and they have previously received airplay in the UK from the likes of BBC 1xtra.

The song Tshwala Bam has already been a hit on TikTok and the choir’s version elevates it further. It’s quite unlike anything I’ve heard before, rich with African flavour while having the energy and discipline that only a choir can bring. Most importantly, it’s a jam, and you can’t help but move along while listening.

Tshwala Bam was produced by David Chifumnanya Elumelu (David Acekeys) and you can check it out below.
