I’ve written before about the amazing music that’s coming out of the small and tightly-knit music community on the Faroe Islands. You can now add the name Silverdrongur to the list.

Shamandrongur is taken from Silverdrongur’s new concept album nú æt eg eftir ánni, also released today. The album’s title translates into English as “now I was named after the river” and both the album and the track explores mythological creatures as well as tackling the potential catastrophe that seems to be heading towards us in one guise or another.
Musically we are treated to a heady mix of laidback dance music, experimentation and vocals that sit somewhere between folk singing, rapping and spoken word. The lyrics are entirely in Faroese but the emotion of the piece transcends language, especially during its two percussive crescendos.
Nú æt eg eftir ánni is out now via Tutl Records. You can check out Shamandrongur below.
