Following on from 2022’s The Marvelous and 2023’s Crimes, I’ll Dissolve for You is underground rock artist MD McNally‘s third album in three years.
By Graeme Smith
From the funky opening of Easy Mark, I could tell I was in for a treat with I’ll Dissolve You. A raw and unique instrumental arrangement underpins soulful vocals delivering lyrics that blend the philosophical with the everyday to great effect before things end big.
There’s a risk when putting out a lot of music in a short space of time that the quality will drop, but that’s simply not the case with MD McNally. His new album is one that never lets up, giving us a dizzying array of styles and moods. Strange Currents and Chaotic Motion Machine are jangly indie rock while Driftless takes things in a folksy direction.
As the album progresses we delight into the vibrant energy of Near Eau Claire and Stadia, the groovy El Matador and the heavy and poetic Shatter Me. Charlie Met Annie up the Town is a timeless and atmospheric instrumental. If Only is powerfully wistful anthem. Look for Your Love provides a driving and passionate finish.
If you like rock and roll in the vein of Springsteen with a psych folk twist then you’re going to find a lot to love about the music of MD McNally. He’s an artist forging his own path in the world of music, drawing from some classic influences and making them his own. The love of his craft comes through in every note of his new album.
I’ll Dissolve for You features the musical talents of Devin Drobka on drums, percussion and synths, and Ian Olvera on mellotron and engineering. It was mastered by Justin Perkins of Mystery Room Mastering. The album is out now and you can check it out below.
