Alan Chapell, a singer songwriter who performs as Chapell, spent much of 2021 writing songs and waiting for live music to return. His new track When The Music Plays Again is the result.

Chapell first featured on our blog as part of Jane’s Monthly Favourites round up in September 2022. More recently, I shared his single Suddenly.

He spent lockdown in Sausalito, California. The town is best known for its vibrant community of houseboats and he was drawn there from New York by its creative energy. 2021 was a year that was particularly bereft of live music and that inspired him to write his latest track.

When The Music Plays Again perfectly sums up the mood of the time, starting with a melancholic piano melody before developing into something a little more hopeful. It oozes with classic song-writing skill and Alan’s vocals are full of passion and character. A singalong chorus is the highlight.

Chapell’s latest album, Underground Music Show, is set for release this summer.
