Mortal Prophets surprise once again with another new track and video

Mortal Prophets, the musical vehicle of New York, USA’s John Beckmann, returns to our pages with another unique track and video. It’s called New Breed.

By Graeme Smith

John’s Mortal Prophets have been all over our pages since June last year. Most recently I shared his revival of an obscure German electronica song through his EP Meine Liebe.

John has a way of surprising with each new release, often taking a drastically different musical direction with each record. New Breed teases his latest style, giving us dreamy, ambient electronica that quickly develops into a driving, drum-and-bass-esque arrangement. It’s not often I find myself dancing along to a track by Mortal Prophets, but that’s exactly what I did with New Breed.

The track will feature on Mortal Prophets’ upcoming album The Confessions of a Sword Swallower, set for release in the autumn.

New Breed was mastered by Joe LaPorta of Sterling Sound (who worked on David Bowie’s Black Star album). It’s out now and you can check out its psychedelic video, directed by Michelle Civetta, below.
