A four-piece alternative indie band from Leeds consisting of Ed, Dan, Alfie and Cole, SISTERLY are new to us but have been building a following down the road in West Yorkshire, recently headlining a show at the Wardrobe in Leeds.
Their next show sees them play the Hyde Park Book Club on 2 August 2024 to celebrate the release of their debut EP, FLOWERMOUND.
Though only five tracks long, the EP covers a berth of topics including cycles, journeys, parties, hangovers, self-loathing, love, hate, life and death. It opens with the intense, emotional rock of So Right So Wrong. The track has chanting lyrics that become more powerful with each repetition, delivered with plenty of passion by the vocals. It’s a gripping opener.
Bud is a grungier number, opening raw and introspective before getting big with its fuzzy riffs and soulful, pleading vocals. The lyrics are visceral in the verse before becoming defiant in the chorus. Racing Snake sits at the heart of the EP and gives us a vibrant anthem with a bouncing beat and plenty of attitude. It’s a highlight.
The EP is then rounded off by Sunday Dress and Big Wheel. The former plods along with a swaggering hard rock edge while the latter brims with hopeful indie rock energy. It’s the perfect way to end the collection.
There’s an impressive range of sub-genres on display across the five tracks of SISTERLY’s new EP and they come together nicely through the band’s enthusiastic embrace of all things rock. It’s easy to see why the band are building the local following that they are and hopefully the release of this EP will grow that audience nationally and beyond.
FLOWERMOUND is out now and you can check it out below.
