The War Yaks deal with separation with new prog track Bifurcate.
By Graeme Smith
The War Yaks are a female-led prog rock band consisting of Nat Rusciani on vocals, keyboard, song writing and production, and her co-songwriter, saxophonist and best friend, Anthony Warga. Completing the line-up are guitarist Esteban Mercado, bassist Jesse Shaw and flautist Kristina Bacich.
Their new track Bifurcate was written by Nat at a time when everything seemed to be separating in her life. Her old band broke up and her marriage ended. The track helped her process it all. As you’d expect from a prog track, it’s a slow-building number that unfolds gradually. There’s plenty in it that subverts expectations too, including Nat’s expressive vocals and wild swings between the gentle and the urgent.
The track features on The War Yaks’ debut album of the same name, out today. You can check out the song below.
